In an effort to ensure unobstructed traffic flow, City Commissioner Ketan Garg, IAS, has instructed the Town Planning Department officials to remove encroachments on major roads. Commissioner Garg noted that numerous complaints have been received through various channels regarding obstructions caused by illegal constructions on roads and drains, which are causing several problems in the city.
Recognizing the urgency of the matter, a detailed discussion was held with the concerned town planning officials, and a plan has been formulated to address these encroachments. To implement the plan, three teams have been formed, consisting of officials from the planning department. On September 17th, awareness was raised among business owners and shopkeepers at key junctions and roads, informing them that the steps, ramps, and other structures built on roads and drains are considered government property and are in violation of building regulations.
Today, on September 18th, encroachments from Azad Chowk Clock Tower to the Alluri Sitarama Raju statue were identified and cleared. A total of 26 drain encroachments, 15 roof sheds, and two pushcarts were removed. It was further announced that similar encroachments in other parts of the city, including those on roads and drains near businesses, commercial establishments, and residential areas, will also be cleared in the coming days. The encroachment removal drive was conducted by the Deputy City Planner, Assistant City Planner, Town Planning Supervisors, and other planning staff.
