Dr. Aruna Kumari, President of the Rajamahendravaram Gynecologists’ Association, expressed deep concern over the lack of justice in the case involving the rape and murder of a medical student at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata last month. Speaking at a press meet held at the Indian Medical Association Hall in Venkateswara Nagar on Monday evening, Dr. Aruna Kumari criticized the authorities for failing to punish the culprits even after a month of investigation. The association members raised suspicions that the hospital staff, with the support of political leaders, may have tampered with key evidence, hindering the investigation.

Despite the involvement of the CBI, the DNA evidence, crucial to the case, has yet to surface, raising fears that the case may be derailed. Dr. Aruna Kumari called for stringent punishment for the criminals responsible for this heinous act, stating that the brutal nature of the crime, which shames humanity, demands nothing less than the harshest penalty. She emphasized the need for stronger measures to prevent such atrocities and urged the strict enforcement of existing laws to ensure that perpetrators of sexual violence face severe consequences.

Demand for Implementation of Laws to Protect Doctors Dr. Aruna Kumari also called for the urgent implementation of the 2019 bill aimed at preventing violence against doctors and medical professionals. She stressed the need for new legislation that would impose harsher punishments on those who inflict physical or mental harm on healthcare workers. The association urged to consider such crimes as non-bailable offenses and highlighted the fact that only 17 states in India have enacted laws to protect doctors.Prominent gynecologists, including Dr. Devisri, Dr. Sujatha, Dr. Venu Madhavi, and Dr. Jyothi, were present at the meeting. They collectively called for stronger protections for the medical community and a swift resolution to this tragic case.
