East Godavari, Rajamahendravaram – In a recent press note released by S. Bharani, District Forest Officer, it has been confirmed that no new leopard tracks have been detected today. Additionally, trap cameras deployed in the area have not recorded any leopard activity. The forest authorities report that there have been no incidents of harm to humans or livestock caused by leopards in the surrounding forest or residential areas.
This positive development indicates that leopards have not posed any immediate threat to the local population or their animals. In response to ongoing concerns and to enhance monitoring efforts, the department has set up additional baits to capture the leopard.
This measure is consistent with the efforts made yesterday to track and manage the leopard’s movements.Furthermore, adjustments have been made to the placement of trap cameras within the Divancheru Reserve Forest to better monitor leopard activity. This adjustment is part of a broader strategy to ensure accurate tracking and timely response to any potential threats.
Addressing a related issue, the department has issued a public advisory concerning waste management in residential areas adjacent to the reserve forest, specifically the Housing Board Colony. The improper disposal of waste has led to an increase in the pig population, which in turn provides a food source for the leopard. To mitigate this, residents are requested to refrain from disposing of waste in the nearby forest areas. This step aims to reduce the availability of food for the leopard and prevent further attraction to residential zones. For any further information or assistance, residents are encouraged to contact the local forest office.
